UPNG Fire Appeal: help the kids who Occipied Waigani

SOURCE: UPNG ADMINISTRATION

On the evening of Thursday 28/6/12, one hundred and fifty (150) second and third year male students lost everything in a fire which gutted the third level of their threelevel hall of residence - Lasitewa.

Affected students are desperately in need of clothes, bedding, towels, stationery and academic material to effectively settle into Semester 2 which started on Monday 2/7/12.

The University management is doing all it can to assist the students. Its priority at present is to find alternate accommodation for the affected students. Immediate relief assistance is organised by the Student Services division.

An appeal - LASITEWA FIRE APPEAL - has been endorsed by the Management and coordinated by the Public Relations & Marketing Unit. A committee comprising three (3) student leaders of Lasitewa, the SRC female vice-president, the Sports & Recreation Office officer, and the Lasitewa Male Warden is leading the appeal effort.

The appeal is targeting the University community and the public of the National Capital District seeking assistance and donations with stationery, male clothing, bedding, towel and toiletry.

Those wishing to assist can contact Ms.Kairu Laho, Coordinator, Public Relations & Marketing Unit on telephone 3437 132 or 3267 257 or email: klaho@upng.ac.pg or prmu@upng.ac.pg

All donations and assistance will be officially recorded and acknowledged.

We sincerely appeal for your kind assistance.
